Smith & Wesson Cocktail
A few weeks ago I introduced you to the classic 50’s cocktail, the Smith & Kearns. It’s a drink that’s light on alcohol but big on flavor thanks to the cremé de cacao, cream and bubbles. This drink has all those things and more. I say more because there’s actually more alcohol in this drink.
Where the original Smith & Kearns only has cremé de cacao, the Smith & Wesson adds vodka. Yup, it’s got a little extra kick. And just like before, if you swap out the cremé de cacao for Kahlua and drop the club soda, you get a White Russian… which might be why the Smith & Wesson was created.
As I mentioned before, the original Smith & Wesson was made with cremé de cacao. But in the early 60’s when the White Russian was gaining popularity, the cremé de cacao in the Smith & Kearns was replaced with Kahlua. So, it only makes sense that since the White Russian was all the rage and was made with vodka, that vodka would eventually be added to the Smith & Kearns as well.
So, if you’re a White Russian fan, but like a little fizz, you’re going to love the Smith & Wesson. I actually prefer it. Not just because it’s made with cremé de cacao, but because it’s got that fizz. Those bubbles combined with the chocolatey flavor of the cremé de cacao not only make for a deliciously strong after dinner drink, it makes for a delightful holiday cocktail. A cocktail that will take you from Thanksgiving all the way through New year’s.
